Its weakness is heat: standard PLA softens above roughly 60°C, so it suits cold and ambient service unless a heat-resistant grade is specified. Certified compostability under EN 13432 or GB/T 38082 should be documented.
• PBAT (butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) — a flexible, tear-resistant polyester that delivers the toughness bags and films need. It is rarely used alone; blending PBAT with PLA or starch balances strength, flexibility and cost.

Rule of thumb: specify PLA where rigidity matters, PBAT blends where flexibility and puncture resistance matter, and confirm the compostability certificate against the destination market before you commit volume.
